I'm considering buying a Triumph America

Had a great ride today on my BMW R1200C, wearing a brace on my new knee. It's a nice, lightweight and fairly torquey machine that handles beautifully. I parked it in the garage and went out to my shop to have have a shot of Crown Royal and of course pondered the beauty of my Touring next to my old truck. It sits up very straight on the kickstand so I mounted it and stood it up without a problem. Dang but what a fine bike and it's easy up off the kickstand. Parting with this incredible machine would be very difficult so I'm not going to make any decisions for a few months as I heal. I'll move it into the garage where it is easier to back out on pavement and head on down the road than backing it out on crushed rock.

I forgot that the old M1 was in the pic. I was dissembling it to find why it won't fully eject older surplus military cartridges. I was thinking perhaps the gas tube was plugged but it's all clean as a whistle. I've since read that using the surplus ammo on the market is hazardous, resulting in a bullet stuck in the barrel at times. I'm having it converted to 7.62x54 NATO.

On the shop, we never even had so much of a two car garage so I resolved when I retired to buy a house with one and on a lot with sufficient room to build a shop. I bought the engineered plans from a guy in Oregon, 20ftx30ft and then added a 12ftx14ft addition. I'm selling the old truck as soon as I install a new power brake booster. I'll then have the shop back for my bikes. A couple of pics.

The interior is a 2016 photo. Both the Nomad and the Harley Super Glide have been sold and the VStrom now has a sidecar on it. Through the doors is the edition with where all of my vintage Triumph twins, special tools etc., are kept. I also have the lift back there.

I looked at a 2016 today and it was a beauty that ocal retired guy is selling. It is black, almost metalflake, and in like new condition with about 3200 miles on it. My wife even liked it and thinks I should buy it. I only sat on it and found it to be extremely comfortable. I read some old ride reports with the America getting very good reviews. $5500 is what he is asking. It has Triumph saddlebags and a passenger backrest/ rear rack plus one of those big round hard luggage bags with an attached rider backrest.

Has anyone owned one of these?
I had one and I loved it. But I totaled it in a dust-up with slick streets and a school bus. That's a very fair price. Buy it and don't look back!

R1200C was my first bike after 15 years of not riding. Great bike, 2001 with abs, heated grips and huge saddlebags that would fit a 30 pack on each side. Still miss it but my brother owns it and barely rides it so might have to buy it back from him some day.

Am really on the fence, with my wife even pushing me to ride it. I've been wanting a bike to ship to England to ride UK and the America would be perfect.

BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!

The America is the best all around motorcycle i have ever owned. Mine is a 2005 more the style of your daughters.
They changed the setup later and made them more of a mid size touring bike over the early cruiser style.
They are a great leisure bikes. They are not going to win any races, but do a respectable job of getting you down the road.
The only thing I know that people do not like is the speed limiter of 95 mph. TTP has a solution for that, but it is not cheap. Late America & Speedmaster 95mph Speed Limiter Removal :: TriumphTwinPower.com

Here is mine set up for two up riding.

I had a the Triumph America a 2008 model. A nice easy to ride machine with very few annoying little idiosyncrasies. It's not really fast but not really slow either. Style wise, I loved it and the comfort level was a big plus - super comfy to ride! Funny that, it was a lovely BLUE too...:inlove:inlove:inlove:inlove
