Michael J Gable and our Bonneville

Nice KZ . And a Vetter fairing. I still can't recall what prompted me to sell my great running, low mileage KZ900 back in the 90s.

One of the features that made the old Nortons so stunning was the beautiful polished aluminum cases.

Your a true legend mate, even @RKTNMYPKT would have stopped 'polishing' well before 6 hours without a break! ;):D:eek:

I always love being able to put a name to the previous owner/s of old items. I tried Googling him before and came across a few possibilities. You could ask the his brother and maybe find out more history yourself online from any info he can provide. For all we know he may have been a 'bad boy rocker' and got locked up not able to repay Dad, histories of ordinary folks can sometimes be more interesting than public figures.

OMG no. I took a couple breaks. I also had a couple glasses of Elijah Craig. Which is probably why Mike and I had such an interesting conversation.

Arhh Therapy upon therapy!

I can see it now - a franchise chain of 'Polishers Whisky Therapy' bars where all devotees can come and polish their bits while drinking high end whiskey with a great profit margin. If you don't bring your own piece to polish, a rack of labelled brand bits from the local wreckers are near the entrance to allow the brand devotees to not be tainted by a foreign brand. To make it viable nationally you cater for any gearhead from vintage autos to bicycles;):D

Instead of quiz nights you could have 'Team Polishing' with tables having identical decrepit parts to restore in about the time it takes to drink a bottle of fine spirits at each table at nip prices.

Every client gets issued a receipt for their bar tab at the end of the night as a 'Treatment' so they can claim on their health insurance.:roll:

There I was sitting in the bar like any other night. Drinking my bourbon and getting to know a transmission cover off of a 1965 Triumph.

Then she sat down.

She picked up a clean cloth..........put it to her moist lips...........then dipping it into the polish.............

Mind if I join in, she says, as she presses her fingers firmly to the aluminum and begins that circular motion we all know so well.............

I believe I posted this pic before. It's my then 15 year old daughter, with her best biker snarl, sitting on my 1976 KZ900. I paid about $250 for it. Those are the original police bags. Another bike I was very foolish to have sold. Low mileage, under 5000 as I recall, and ran perfectly.
