the rocket is almost running again....sort of

Excellent news and well done, you had the cam timing right all along.
So if you had read the MAP numbers they would have been - - - and you would have found it that way too :)

I'm curious as to what sensor I actually had plugged into the map connector.will take a look tomorrow when I'm topping off the coolant.
Need to hook up the battery charger to bike and see if that raises the voltage enough for tuneecu to connect, it's like trying to work blindfolded without that handy resource giving all the readings,would certainly have saved me a lot of messing about

Just remember to disable any anti-virus software before trying to run TuneECU.

Glad you sorted it out!! You know what they say, if you can’t fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem!!

The heated grips accessory socket by the sounds of it - purple, black, blue wires, same connector type as the MAP connector (pink/grey, pink, pink/black wires) which is literally right beside it o_O.. easy mistake to make i suppose.

Roadster harness, but the connectors and wires for these 2 are the same on the older Rockets;

There is a lot more sophisticated troubleshooting already listed here.
But my first thought when I read your symptoms, did you have the throttle positioning sensor removed during the work?
Is it back in the correct position?
Basically when I cleaned my rear TPS on the bench to overcome the drifting high idle problem I had to find the sweet spot when I re mounted it or it acted just like you described.

Hah! Read further and saw you figured it out. Good deal!
