A new theory

Got a second hand final drive with a good spline today for AU$600 including freight and a drive shaft for AU$300 so not too bad. Hot weather has slowed the progress again. I read somewhere that you do not have to drain the coolant just remove the radiator and lower it. Will try it and take photos if it is correct. Still searching for a 34mm deep socket to undo the damper nut.

Do you have the damper out yet ?
Not yet had to go to work and it has been bloody HOT. Welded the socket to the swing arm, may not be ok to put oil in there but will make it easy to inspect the spline and with a special little hook make it so simple to refit the final drive by lifting the shaft. When it is back together I am going to investigate if I can weld splines from the rear of a car gearbox and it's driveshaft to fix my spare set that is worn.

FINALLY got the damper out and the bearings are both OK (^&!%!*^#!%$@] there is 7 hours of my life I will never get back. The front one is around the wrong way so at least I found that. I also found that the nut is 35mm so will have to order a new socket *^%^(&(&^%. Will replace the bearings and put it back together. New drive shaft Diff and wheel bearings and cross my fingers. I also found that the universal is very tight on one axis and was wondering if this would cause harmonics and premature wear on the rear spline?????

34 mm very close to 1 5/16 socket
35mm very close to 1 3/8 socket.

I always check before I buy!
