16ºF and No Can Start, Gotta Ride to Work, Battery Recommendations?

Well I went away over to Australia for 22 days and came home and thought I had better check if I had any power in the battery.

Fired up first time but it is summer time here.

I think I have a yuasa battery which has 22 months use in the Rocket.

Yuasa seems to be the popular choice now, and has stood the test of time.

.........Yet another option - carry a small LiFePO4 booster pack inside your jacket .........

Lithium Ion Jump Starter and Power Pack

So, I have this for our car and RV. Is something like this also safe to use on a bike?

Lithium iron phosphate
Maximum amperage output (amps) 450 peak amps

Went off on a Google chase about jump starters and, of course, some say yes, others say no. The question seems to be the sudden burst of power to the system, as opposed to jumping off another idle 12v battery.

For now, my battery seems to be OK and I have many good ideas for warming the bike and/or battery prior to starting out- probably only a handful of times/year will it be below freezing (and dry) when I have to ride. But just curious now if I could use my portable jumper if I forget to heat the bike, or on the road camping when the temps drop too low over night.

@barbagris I have a feeling you know the definitive answer to this question.

Snow and ice out there now. Taking my wife's car today.

I picked up a lithium ion jumper kit last year just as a safety precaution. We were 3 heading into forest areas of Canada just in case of mishap. Used once just to turn over a bike engine that I rebuilt to see if oil pressure was building up on battery revolutions. Worked really well.

I **** well hope so as it's similar to what I carry.
I have a NOCO GB40 - That blasts out UP TO 1000A (on paper). But it's not like putting an arc welder across the battery.

Thing is not to DEPEND on it. If you always need the booster then the battery will steadily get worse. Always try without first.

Batteries are really quite simple things. But they depend on Chemical reactions which are in turn dependant on temperature.

Not sure of the battery, but like Bernard and Journeyman are saying, cover her with a moving blanket, small ceramic heater on a timer, and a jumper pack for the way home or anytime you need it. But, KEEP RIDING!!

If your on a tender it wont freeze. Or I should say shouldn't freeze. I leave my battery powered stuff plugged into a tender and they still put out adequate power in sub zero weather.

Ive had great luck with agm batteries. Stay away from cheapos and you will be fine.

Your question is very close to "what oil is best" lol. Any reputable battery brand should give good service.
