Please allow me to butt in.
The 55 aspect ratio does indeed make a good difference in handling, but tis just part of the story.
Likely in attempt to help new riders in park lots and at low speed, the Roadster was created with a reverse daigo. The result is the rear axle is .5 inch lower than the front. This is not condusive to good corner handling.
The 240/R5516 raises the rear axle to level with the front. This improves handling; however, reducing the circumference of the front can lower the front axle .5 inch below the rear and seriously improve handling!
A 140/78R17 or even better, the Michelin Road5 in 150/70R17 will greatly improve handling.

Totally unaware of this, and, as always, thanks for the info, one question, does this also apply to the Classic? thought all the bikes were the same frame and geometry?

What this combination of tyres does is reduce the rake by 1°, which is significant
Oh yes indeed ;)

Now then "young master", I have a graphical display/drawing thing for some mental torture. :D

Effects on steering due to contact patch lateral displacement on banking. Disparate tyre sizes MUST effect steering. It will also affect CoG a bit depending on the crown radius.
I keep trying to visualise it in my mind - but run out of neurons. :coffee: - OK time for a nap - in my defence I'm a bit poorly today.

Frank. TOTALLY - I run the same tyre sizes as Steve - 2009 Standard. The difference is notable.
But when you drop the front axle with a smaller sidewall - be aware this drops the sump and as Steve knows, this has consequences in curves.
You will need (imo) to address the forks. Various scenarios - from "cheap and cheerful" to "Pah! - It's only money".

The OEM setup makes the who bike a bit "softer" and also helps counter nose dive on braking.

It is a "can of worms" thing where one apparently unimportant change has knock-on effects.
I feel it my duty to protect baby Alicia's inheritance.

Yep that is the Tyre that I use, and who I buy from.
have bought a few of them.

An interesting story about Boyd M/C'z Tal ....

Back in the late 70's I worked as a Motor Cycle Mechanic at Bryan Scobie Honda.
John Amor was the parts boy back then, and David Ricka was the head Mechanic (I was No. 2)

These days, John is the parts manager at Boyds, and Dave is the workshop Manager.
They both look after me well

I see one side of the tire is worn down much more than the other. Why is that Paul ?

It's the camber of the road Bill.
The roads are slightly crowned so with us riding on the L/H side of the road, the R/H side of the Tyre wears more.
Also, I power slide out of L/H corners more so than R/H ones ....... No not really :p :D
