OK....Er...ahem......bit scared to ask but f*** it......... does the 55 have any effect on the handling?

Please allow me to butt in.
The 55 aspect ratio does indeed make a good difference in handling, but tis just part of the story.
Likely in attempt to help new riders in park lots and at low speed, the Roadster was created with a reverse daigo. The result is the rear axle is .5 inch lower than the front. This is not condusive to good corner handling.
The 240/R5516 raises the rear axle to level with the front. This improves handling; however, reducing the circumference of the front can lower the front axle .5 inch below the rear and seriously improve handling!
A 140/78R17 or even better, the Michelin Road5 in 150/70R17 will greatly improve handling.

An interesting story about Boyd M/C'z Tal ....

Back in the late 70's I worked as a Motor Cycle Mechanic at Bryan Scobie Honda.
John Amor was the parts boy back then, and David Ricka was the head Mechanic (I was No. 2)

These days, John is the parts manager at Boyds, and Dave is the workshop Manager.
They both look after me well

What this combination of tyres does is reduce the rake by 1°, which is significant

Avon does not make a 240/55R16, only a 240/50R16, which leaves the rear axle a half inch lower than the front. Not good.

I like my Avon Cobra rear tyre.
I found it improves the cornering of the beast. **** near ripped my foot off the peg the other day going around the round about.

But seen as olbull and Paul recommends the Bridgestones I will try out them next when I'm due to replace the rear tire.

Looks to me like about 25 to 30 thousand miles of rear tires . . .
