Running a rear tire on the front in the opposite direction is not a good idea tire are designed to dispurse rain water and will not do that running in the wrong direction

It's actually illegal in Australia to do this on a registered bike unless the tyre is designated to be able to be used on either front or rear and if that's the case, there's no need to reverse the tread as it's designed to work in that direction for either front or rear.

Well FWIW...i wouldnt run any of these the wrong way around....there ability to disperse water must be severely affected if you do...

..And its not ONLY the tread but also the carcass...the tread is a wrap designed to disperse and grip...the carcass is designed to go one way hence the directional arrow on the side...Call me chicken if you want but i wouldnt feel too comfy doin it the other way....goin around a steep corner on a wet day!!!...no thanx!

Well lets see.
I run a HOMOLOGATED Front/rear Avon on my Guzzi. There are fitting arrows for front and rear fitment - these differ in their rectilinear verisimilitude. Running a rear tyre on the front is NOTHING NEW. Reverse rotation is necessary depending on stress factors. If you had a front wheel drive bike then NO - you would maybe not reverse.

Thats very interesting....I have been told that here in NZ we wouldnt get a WOF if we ran the tyres backwards and the same applies if we have a rear tyre on the front...maybe we will catch up with the rest of the world soon then

Im not an engineer but... Although the water shed pattern might not be optimal in the reversed direction, looks like water can still escape from the contact point through a channel to avoid hydroplaning.
