I guess it depends to some extent where you live (pretty dry around Canberra) but I never had trouble with rusting on the edges after I cut my bear claw. I did initially run a candle along the edge which may have helped but after many washes and several years still no rust. I cut mine with a Dremel and had no issues with the chrome cracking or lifting.
Holes might be a different story. I don’t know. If I was worried about rust I’d consider maybe something like clear nail polish round the edge of each hole - or get some birthday candles
