I am a guy that has always done his own maintenance. I have read the manual and i am not sure what it is about it, but the instructions for the oil change seems to be much different than i am used to on a vehicle or a V-Twin. Does anyone have a write-up or solid video of changing the oil in a 2009 R3T?

Also, i am thinking that i will run a wix filter and Rotella T6 5w-40.

Also, are there any other fluids or anything to change? I got the bike from a dealer last year.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of folks use the T6 with satisfaction. Been using it for years myself

If one can not feel and determine the tactile torque response of hand to wrench, they had better keep their mitts in their pockets and just watch someone who can. Regarding low torque sensitive bolts into engine cases, I trust my "feel" way more than a mechanical metal device.

Well, I can say with confidence, proper torque on a Minuteman III ICBM main body mating assembly bolt is one-quarter turn past flush. Tested and proved with a torque wrench of course... ;)

I used it in my last bike, a Triumph Sprint 1050, with no issues. I haven't used it in the Rocket yet, but lots of bikes run it with no issues.

I've used Rotella 5w40 for the last 12 years or so.. I run my Rocket hard and never have had a problem. I have 30,000 miles on this Rocket and had 28,000 on my 05 Rocket. Anything that can lubricate a turbo charged diesel can lubricate a motorcycle engine. If you're afraid of it, buy the Valvoline 10w40 synthetic at Wally World for $6 a quart. It's still better than paying $12 plus a quart from a dealer for oil that is over rated. But each to his own. An ole timer told me once that it is all greasey.

From another member. The 3 yellow bolts.

What is happening...this doesn't seem to match my 2020 oil pan.🧐 Even the manual schematic doesn't seem to match where the 3 bolts are.

I've used Rotella 5w40 since it came out. It is wet clutch approved. I think it's a good choice. Many Gold Wingers use it.
