Who bought their Rocket from new and why did you choose it?

I had a M109r from new back in 2006.......thought I’d sell it before I’d get nothing for it in 2015, took a zx1400 for a spin , man those things crack! Bought that, then found I wanted a more relaxed position so bought a new R3R in 2018, just got an email saying the new 2.5L 180HP is coming, might go and see about a trade in.

I was considering an m109 boss before settling on rocket. My previous bike was an m90

I bought my 2009 R3T new from Mark McCaffrey, then owner of Rocket Motorcycles in San Diego, in 2009.

I was moving from a Kawasaki Nomad and wanted a “real” motorcycle that not everyone had, not a big plastic road sofa like the Goldwing. I really wasn’t interested in a big Harley, either, as those were everywhere.

After quite a bit of research, I narrowed my choices to either the Honda Rune or Valkyrie, or the big Triumph. I chose the Touring model as I do a lot of long distance riding and thought the R3T would be better suited for that than the Classic.

The crew at Rocket Motorcycles received the bike in a crate from England, put it together over a couple of days and displayed it on the showroom floor until I picked it up.

I’m coming up on 10 years and 55,000 miles on this big, fat girl and I still love it. I had some electrical issues the first year or so and they were covered by Triumph. No mechanical issues since. I’ve ridden this bike all over the USA, Canada and Mexico and it’s still a pleasure to ride down the street. I’d trust it to take me anywhere and it still gets looks and comments from other riders.

I’ve done a few mods to make the bike my own, such as (several) seats, a backrest, windscreens, bars, Highway pegs and grips. I tried other chrome and exhausts but ended up with the stock set-up. I even added the de-restrictor...but took the unit off after bringing the front end up too many times!

There’s no bike quite like the Rocket III...as you know if you’ve seen or ridden one.

Did the test ride at the Honda Hoot in 2007. When I got home I sold my Roadstar Warrior that had 195 miles on it and bought the Rocket. Thank goodness I also bought all the available accessories at the same time as most of them are unobtainable now.

The test ride got a lot of us on here...

After about 2 years of my wife telling me I should really give a Rocket a try... We finally went to a dealer to find out only the manager could authorize a ride (all other bikes were no problem). We walked in... the manager (who I'd gotten to know through my Thunderbird) tossed me the keys and asked that I keep the mileage low unless I was serious. Unlike the Harley dealer, I didn't need a shadow following me either. When I got back from one adrenaline soaked ride my wife, who couldn't see my face, stated... "Now if you don't like it... don't say so on my account." Heh! She came home with me that day (the wife too!). ;-p
