Strange rear brake

You can get any number of right little 'bleeders' from any orphanage in the UK..Not so sure in AUS.

Good post! My 2013 has been acting weird for some time. I had not thought about the pin thing. Mine acts as if the caliper retracts too much. Pedal very low, lot's of travel, and almost have to stand on it, to activate the anti-lock system. I have heard about the boot being stuck to the piston, pulling it back too far. Pads are fine. Guess I need to pop it off and have a look see.

My back brakes kept fading in and out. Bleed the brakes several times and always the same. Plenty of air trapped in the line. Changed out bleeder with new OEM one and problem gone. Have not had a issue since then. No leakage around bleeder. Just gave up trouble shooting everything else with no results and decided to give it a try.

My mate has a 2016 Roadster and he commented the same. I guess I should try bleeding the system to replace the fluid. Bleeding the ABS system will be new experience for me.

Bleed as though they’re normal non-ABS brakes. Nothing special required.

Is the brake bleeder thread size, M8X1.25-16. Anyone know this for sure.

Looks right from memory, I think the parts fiche has the size listed.

I've also read somewhere, if you suspect the anti-lock system to have air, activating it, by carefully trying to lock up the rear wheel, (you'll feel the vibration as it cuts on and off), will circulate the air pocket around to where it can be bled out by normal procedures. Kinda makes sense.o_O

Yes, but you still have all that old brake fluid in the abs that needs to be changed every two years.

I was under the impression that when the anti lock system activates, it recirculates the fluid back to the master cylinder. There is no separate reservoir for just anti loc fluid. So confusing.:banghead:

Our ABS system simply has a couple of pressure relief valves inside that mysterious box. Under normal circumstances, you have what is effectively a solid line from the master cylinder to the caliper. When it detects lock up, it pulses the valve super fast to allow the wheel to roll again. In it's resting un-powered state, it defaults to the closed valve mode and you bleed as though its a solid line and it feels as though it's a solid line.
