I think (oh god I am in trouble now) that I read on here about cleaning the primary TPS with WD40 or something like that and that seemed to work for some riders. I have ordered a replacement TPS but in the meantime I was thinking about cleaning the old one on my bike. Can I remove, clean and re-install without the required hooking up to Tune-ECU etc?

Not if you want it to be in the proper position

u did not give much info.
but if u can not ride it u might try. now i have never tried to clean mine so i do not know what they r doing.
i think that a lot of riders blame the tps for other probs.
it is a component that wears out.
mine has acted up several times and i have always been able to fix it by wd40 the springs and the stepper motor and opening the throttle and letting it fly shut.

When I had the TPS blues, tried cleaning. No cigar. Replacement and travel with a new one and Tune ECU in an android... that's my ticket.

Lube the stepper as described, it helps. Don't mess with the TPS in the front of the throttle bodies. Disconnect all accessible connections, clean with the Qtip and lube with dielectric grease.
