I purchased an R3 Roadster last year, MY 2017, and have had 3 issues which to me seem like factory defects.

Transmission issue - dog worn and 2nd gear slipping after only 2500 miles.
Head gasket blew out - just past 5k
Cracked radiator connection housing - a few days after head gasket was replaced.

Is this just a bad bike or are these common issues at this low mileage?

Trans - factory assembly error
Head Gasket - Very uncommon on R3s
Coolant doodad - never heard of any issues from anyone else, I would blame the tech who reassembled.

Did they do the trans work under warranty?

Trans and head gasket were covered, however Triumph seemed to have dragged the trans repair out for a month with delays in providing parts.

I was wondering about the coolant doodad if someone over-torqued the housing, but the shop hasn't fessed up. I'm getting ready to cry foul (California protects consumers against badly built new cars/motorcycles/other vehicles). Gonna visit the shop later to see what they have to say, trying to decide what my stance should be at this point. All of this has happened in the last 3 months.

The radiator part, speak with the manager when they give you the bill. You brought it to them working now it’s not.

Parts are always a wait from Triumph, not the dealerships failure, it’s the company. They don’t keep a well managed stock for the R3.

I had mine done under warranty as well, I feel for you, took them about 6 weeks to get all the parts in and work done. If it doesn’t come back flawless go straight back and tell them. Don’t wait or they may try and blame “rider error”.

In the back of my mind I have a haunting concern that something else is going to break that will be more catastrophic (i.e. cause an accident).

Don’t worry, just go do a neighborhood test ride to check everything and make sure it’s all correct. Then ride the balls off it. The rockets a pretty fing tough bike when assembled properly
