Curious what length and model are they?

They dont have a model number as they are especially made for the R3 using a HD base shock im thinking 13. But they are the same as Paul Bryants re his photo..

Got my forks back. Mostly rebuilt as they were, just different fluid smaller air gap and SKF seals. There’s a hell of a lot less sticksion now, massive difference.

Excuse my lack of technical knowledge, but making a smaller air gap is surely just adding more fork oil,or is there more to it?

Well yes - but there is a caveat - You need to have enough airgap.

Too little and you WILL get Hydraulic lock and risk blowing the seals. Which on USD forks is dramatic and gets oil all over the tyres and brakes. And they have to be even.

I run mine at the minimum of 120mm - suspension travel is reduced a bit. 140 is probably just too much. 130 is proabaly best all round.

Well everything seems fine on her maiden repairs voyage, headstock might be a touch too tight but the forks feel great! They don’t bottom as easily as before and still supple cruising.

Smaller air gap was the key!

Thanks for the explanation barbagris, so is the 140 measurement Triumphs setting?

For the life of me I don't know. I went to my local suspension chappie and explained what I was after. I run Maxton cartridges too so the damping was already up to scratch. I wanted to knock the nose diving off - which is more an issue once you change tyre sizes as the axle heights vary and no longer actively discourage weight shift. He knew what Kayaba 43mm forks need from memory. Much more than 140 and they will start to bottom out though.

Manual says like 90mm gap, because it has extremely low spring rates.

Currently have the Wilber’s “progressive” front springs, 10w oil, and 100mm air gap, down from Wilber’s recommended 110mm gap. The difference is big. You can see the springs are really only progressive at the very end of the stroke.

Here’s a picture my Oring movement on the fork to show how much travel I’m using, riding was mild today nothing particularly quick, just commuting. The increased spring rate ramp from reduced air gap was exactly what I needed.
