I have a scan gauge hooked up to the bike which shows instant and average fuel economy, it shows roughly 18 mpg, maybe tops of 22. I have a map from Hanso loaded, with just the ramair filter for mods, I get that this bike isn't fuel efficient, but is there anything that I can do other than control my wrist? I won't trade this for anything, I love this bike.

How does the MPG compare when you do the calculations at the pump rather than rely on the gizmo?

I'm not a 100% sure because I fill up every day with gas cans at the house, I drive roughly 60 miles total every day that I work, usually five days a week. I also drive a Bonneville every now and then and when I fill up after a ride it takes far less fuel than the roadster to fill. Which it should, but a little increase in economy would be nice.

You need to know how much it takes to fill and divide miles ridden since last fill by that. I had a mileage minder that was meant for a car on my Rocket for a bit and it came up with the same lame figure.....of course I know good and well I am getting 35 mpg cause i check it with a calculator at every fillup.

I have seen as low as 28 mpg when I was trying to find the right tune after adding headers and RamAir but have it back up to 34-36 mpg.

I can't imagine you're actually getting only 18 mpg! I would think you would smell raw gas at idle if it was that rich.


Either the calculation is off or you drastically need a new tune. JMO

Go back to basic 101 stuff---remove a plug or two and have a look at them, as said best way is to fill tank run about 90-100miles fill up again and do the calculations.

No Way are you only getting 18 MPG. I have a tune, K&Ns etc... and I can get as much as 42 mpg to 32 mpg. I ride it hard most of the time so 32 mpg is average. And in my book great for a bike this big with the power it has.

No way your getting 42 mpg on a R3. I get 31 max if I have a tail wind. 28 to 30 is the usual. Have TOR, Ramair and a HansO tune. It does smell rich but has power to show for it. Perhaps Scott can tweak it while in Stearns and I can get a little more. The Valkie gets 25. The Yukon XL does 19 to 20!
