checking oil, warm or cold?

Stand the bike straight up...like when you are straddling it. Run it for about 30 seconds, to send oil back up to the tank. That's all you gotta do. And do check while it's standing straight up.

has any one ever measured the difference between standing up and on the stand:laugh::laugh::roll::roll::roll:

I suspect it wouldn't be hard to do. Get it right standing up...then put it on the stand and check again. Now you know where normal is both ways!

Good Thinking:thumbsup:

Have had 3 motors with dry sump systems.
Forget accuracy!
I put in 6 quarts and then check oil when cold.
Based on that reading I always check cold and compare. On the 2012 R3R wiyh 74K miles have never needed to add oil in 10K intervals.
Never was so lucky with my V2K (2004 2058cc Kaw).

Now that you've mentioned it, I've never had to add any oil to mine also. Has anyone ever added oil to their Rockets??

Oh, I just check after running the engine for a minute. Not really any difference in level on sidestand or upright.

Change the oil every 5,000 miles. Never had to add oil between changes. When i wash mine i place a floor jack and level the bike. Run engine for about a minute and wait a few and check oil. Never had a issue.
