Ride
2013 R3T
Both my step children lobbied me to not sell my late wife's bike. Their argument, and it was a good one, was that they remember how HAPPY she was when she got it, and learned to ride. My ground rules were pretty simple, complete the Ottawa Safety Council riding course, and they each must ride with me at least a dozen times before they can go without me. (they are 23 and 30 years old...but too bad, those were the conditions) I just signed up both of them in the course for this spring, Christian will ride Mom's Harley until he decides to get something larger, it's a 2013 883 Superlow, Kat is getting a trail bike to replace her dirt bike so she can ride to the trails, rather than trailer it, she'll take the Harley when he upgrades. He already hinted at me buying another bike, and him taking mine....it's a PG13 forum, so I can't say what I told him.

I'm looking very much forward to seeing it on the road again, and riding with the kids as a family activity.:D

Tell it all brother...;):D

The Sportster will be a good starter bike for him until he upgrades, as his skill progresses so will his want to get something more suitable for him, if he continues to ride. It is in Kat's blood, she has had a couple dirt bikes, I put her on the back of mine last summer, when I dropped her off at home, first thing out of her mouth "I WANT ONE!"
We actually have another sportster still in the family, when my father-in-law passed, we gave his Sportster to his nephew, now it is his wife's ride.

Good you're keeping the Harley. I own 2 Sportsters, and recently checked around Craigs List for prices. It will make you cry. I have over $15,000 in one of them, and would be lucky to get $3000 now-a-days! Be better to fill the cylinders with oil, let the air outa the tires, put em up on blocks in some climate controlled storage bin, and maybe in 50 or 60 years, you might get your money back!

Yup, NO resale value on a Sportster, its a nice enough bike though, I'm actually considering when the time comes to paint mine, I am leaning towards the same blood orange colour.

I been wanting to get a sportster for a while and for some reason never have, i am addicted to check craigslist every night and you guys are right, value is way down when it comes to Harleys in general, i can get an 04 to 08 fatboy for anywhere from 5 to 7k and i have seen 2013 sportsters as low as 3800. I remember back in the 90s you had to order them and never saw a sportster for less that 11k regardless of year!
