OldBull, could you give me a recap of the best/fastest route to take and good stops? Maps is sending me via Dallas, Oklahoma City then west. Eventually will need a tell# and address please.

Rick,
Contact @breeze (Dave) about a stop in Bloomfield, MN and also @Idaho Red Rocket 3 (Bill) about a stop in Nampa, ID.
If you have the time, Moab is a very kewl town and some awesome scenery to check out. I highly recommend you spend a few bucks and take a few hours for a guided Jeep ride on Hell's Revenge with Dan Mick. His contact is Moab Jeep Tours | Moab Jeep Tours
Be sure and time your drive through Provo, Salt Lake and Ogden for late night or wee early morning (10 PM - 4 AM) as traffic is a real bear through there.
This is the way I would travel:

Steve in your capacity of grand poobah organizer of this RAA event suggest to all participant to stick a marker on their garment with their avatar name in large letters since we sometimes only know that name we can relate much quicker to each other that way.

That there is an excellent idea, Patrick!
I shall come up with something once I know how many Amigos we have with us. :D

Hmmm. I'm more than a little concerned with the discussion about 12 hour riding days. If this is the case, I'll have to regretfully withdraw from the event, which also effects Mexican.

At my age I simply don't ride long days like that anymore, which is one of the reasons that I normally ride solo or with a close friend who rides as I do. I've ridden throughout the US and Canada and love to take my time, take in the scenery and smell the roses so to speak, taking many pictures along the way. 8 hours and about 350 miles for me is about right.

The RAA West event, as proposed, is far different than other rallies I've attended over the years in that it is a rolling event covering a lot of ground, while others center around a geographic location with rides in and around the area. I don't want to be a spoil sport, but unfortunately for me, 10-12 hour rides are not something in which I am interested. It is most disappointing.

Edit: With that said, I did not mean to sound negative about the RAA. As proposed it is spectacular, covering a lot of beautiful territory and roads. My concern is that I just won't be able to maintain the pace if it includes 12 days.

Is there’s a schedule posted I am missing? It’s going to be very tricky timing for me with work.

12 hours in the saddle is quite a long day. Not sure I’m even up for it to be perfectly honest. The longest day I’ve done a bike was 16 hours and by the end of it I was way way beyond safe, weaving, soar, day dreaming, justand accident waiting to happen.m

Perhaps those of us who want shorter legs ride as a second group, meeting up at final destination with less side trips?

First post has a link to Bull's most recent ride route post

I have been chatting with SWMBO and that many hours in the saddle would probably cripple her for a month or so. So I am contemplating having her bring up the rear with our truck.

These are some valid concerns we need to hash out.

The first day from Tacoma to Medical Lake is about 350 miles and good roads. Even with a stop for lunch you guys should be able to do it in 6-7 hours.

The second day (Day 1 from Medical Lake) is the killer. Just straight riding is about 10 hours. With stops for food, gas, pictures, stretching will run it into at least 12 hours I think. That's a long day for anyone. :(

Here is an amended 1st day from Medical lake. This would get the Spiral Hiway and Rattlesnake Pass on that day. It would be an overnight in LaGrande.

Day 2 Would be Snake Canyon Dam and then head west with an overnight in Umatilla or somewhere close by.

Day 3 would get you back to Tacoma via superslab along the Columbia River.

These rides would give plenty of time for sightseeing along the way, plenty of time for other stops and possible rerouting into side roads if it looks good.

This is just an idea I have thrown out so we can get maximum participation. There is still plenty of time to play with days and routes. I am still open to whatever the consensus is.
