Bear claw doesn't fit well against tank

i think the tank tabs are not in the correct orientation to hold the cover in place (via friction) when the bolts are tightened.
i'm going to give it another go knowing that you guys care about me as a real person and will chip in to replace the tank if i break off the tabs.
this is the best forum ever!

I went out and looked at my claw.

My claw is not even engaged with the tabs on the tank!:banghead:

I didn't even know it. Mine is in the same predicament as yours...lol

However there is not enough crack around the claw to stick my fingers into.

I've had my claw off and on a thousand times doing mods, changing the fuel filter etc... so it has been through the winger.

Pushing up and down on the claw a few minutes ago I noticed that without it being locked to the tank tabs it will move up and down a pretty good bit. It will however go back to where there is a small crack.

By looking at your pictures it seems the tank tabs need to be bent out a tad or manipulate the tab on the claw or both.

I believe the very first thing I/you need to do is get the claw locked into the tabs and then tighten the bolts. :banghead:

i gave it my all and came up short.
i screamed "GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN" and the bike started on it's own but the claw still doesn't fit right.
i'm off to the dealership tomorrow to either receive an education or provide one......
