Head count for RAA - Wytheville VA 2017

I really wanted to ride up but in a complete departure from sanity I've purchased 16 gallons of H-D orange and I've started painting the house with it. Using black for the trim. Like a moth to a flame, bet i will sell the house to dorkzilla.

ok, i was wrong in the other thread: don't listen to that chicken any more...

Hi everyone...FYI...I will not be making this years RAA. I have a long standing 30 year relationship with bouts of Paroxysmal Atrial Fib. Most of my life I have not been in Afib, but it seems the last 30 days it has decided to show it ugly head several times. People who are in it all the time are in a controlled version with a slower heart rate. When it hits me in an "uncontrolled" fashion (160-180 BPM) it's a trip to the ER and like yesterday, it's a night in the ICU for observation and some drugs to slow it down to get me out of it. Not a fun time when it hits and quite debilitating for me. I'm out of Afib now, back home and increasing one of my meds to see if it helps with my most recent batch of spells.

I'm just not up to being that far away from home and run the risk of getting into it. Hopefully, it will settle down and leave me alone again for a year or two again. I cancelled my reservations, so I guess I'm off the list. Enjoy RAA everyone....

Modern electro ablation in the physiology suite fixes many of those cases. Any good cardiologist will know where to send you. It requires special skills to perform the procedure.

Actually, I going to be seeing an Cardiac electrophysiologists and looking into if it will work for me. I haven't investigated it because sometime I don't have issues for years at a time. But then again, I'm getting older and it is harder on me when I get into it. It would be nice to get off the drugs I have taken for years to help keep it in check.

Also, sometimes they have to do the ablation several times to fix it. It's not without some risks.

They have perfected the catheter techniques and procedures a lot. It is worth the risks if they offer you the procedure. The heart in A-fib does not eject blood well and sets the stage for embolic stoke. Good luck.

1K9 knows what he is talking about......He helped me more than the main Doctors at Duke Hosp. when I had my aorta replaced with a synthetic one. Mine was 100% blocked 3 inches above my belly button......I could not walk 150 feet with out falling down or having to sit down.

I can now walk 2.7 miles in 55 min.......I turned 70 yesterday and feel better than I have in the last 5 years
My worst fear is having a stroke......So you take care of yourself and the very best of luck with your doctors

If y'all by chance ride The Back of the Dragon again please post a highway condition report. Thx

Joesy have you ever road 623 in that area like from Alum Spring Hollow up over and into the Burkes Garden area? It looks to be a good ride 11 miles and google says 45 minutes. Can't tell for sure if its black top though? Can't ride the back of the dragon everyday.

@Bedifferent I had atrial fibrillation for years. I went into fibrillation one time and after the pills got me back into regular sinus rhythm a blood clot caused me to go blind in one eye. My wife was in bed already so I woke her up and told her I thought I was having a stroke. Sweetheart that she is she pulled the covers over her head and said," **** off, I have to go to work in the morning" That's when I knew my marriage was in trouble. I called 911 myself and got the proper treatment and the rest is history. I had an ablation performed a couple of years ago when my Afib increased in frequency and it was successful the first time. I was told 75% success first time 95% second time but I was lucky. At my last checkup I was told I have the heart function of a 29 yr old which can only be good. See you in one week:D

Coincidentally my Afib was worse as a bike trip approached and I missed a couple because of this. I think it was aggravated by adrenalin. I once rode home from a Maggie Valley trip in fibrillation and went straight to the hospital on my arrival in home in Canada. No worries now and I am off all heart meds and blood thinners. I only take a baby aspririn a day now.

I hope it works out as well for you and you have no more incidents.
