Hi I am new to R3 owners and am hoping i can get some guidance with this project, I have :
2005 Rocket, power commander, Jardine pipes. I just picked up 4 of the 5 K&N filters from a salvage missing the crankcase vent. Can anybody confirm a K&N part number? I really would appreciate any advice on relocation of air sensor and where to get or how to fabricate any clamps, hardware, tools that will help me get my need for performance satisfied. Pictures? I love them.

The RamAir filter kit solves all the problems of extra filter for the crankcase vent and a proper location for the air sensor. It can be found online for $149 shipped.

Seconded on the RamAir. Ask Hanso nicely and he will send you a TuneECU tune to suit your bike. The bike will sound better and definitely runs better.

You mention K&N filters....which ones have you got...maybe photos. I am assuming they could be pod filters?
The ramair system is great but would make your pod filters no good to you. The advantages of the Ramair, besides providing excellent air induction, is as mentioned above, a small filter is included for the crankcase breather and also an extension lead to relocate the air intake sensor...also a clamp which you will need.
As far as gutting the air system and installing the new ramair, there is an excellent youtube video showing how. I recommend watching this all the way thru and then when you start, you can pause the video...do that bit...start the video...pause...etc, etc....
Good luck.

I have the recommended K&N pod filters ( 2780 ) and the air temp sensor filter with a sensor already in it. So just wanting a proper crankcase breather filter and a little help with a good way to mount it plus a couple other clamp ideas. I think I can end up under $100 for parts which allows me to splurge on the Tune. I have a great guy lined up for that.

OK so you got most of it so don't read to much into it. You have the 2780's hopefully with the hose clamps. As for the air temp filter location it depends on if you still have the expansion tank on her or not. some people more or ad a different one to allow for more air flow. Mine is relocated so I have my filter hung here with a zip tie

if you still have the expansion tank then I would hang it in between #1 and #2 throttle bodies. below is a picture I grabbed from this site the yellow X is where this feller has it mounted and The arrow is where I would look at mounting it. keep in mind air flow to it both slow and high speeds.

Now you can go the K&N route on the crank case filter in which you will remove the double 90 degree rubber crank case vent hose and wrestle the filter onto the nipple. or you can cut the double 90 into a single add a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe and run down to the local auto parts store and buy a filter to go on the pipe. (you can also use the K&N this way) this makes it easier to remove and clean the filter periodically and it is hidden behind the infill panel either way.

Thank you. Its true pictures are worth a thousand words.

Ok...I put a filter over the air intake sensor just to protect the bulbous thingy on the end which measures the air temp...just as yours is. The important thing is to mount it close to where the pod filters are cos it will measure the temp of the air going into the filters...this is critical for the tune...if its mounted elsewhere, you will get false readings (maybe the air will be too warm from the engine heat for example)....so right beside those pod filters. I cut the air temp wires (Two of them) and soldered and heat shrunk some wire into it to make it long enuff to reach the pod area.
For the crankcase breather, i bought a small filter with a 12mm fitting. I pulled the "S" shape hose off the crankcase breather and at the top and cut it in half so i ended up with an "L" shape. One end goes back over the crankcase breather, the other end fits over the 12mm end of the filter. You can now have the filter just behind the panel you have removed to get to the breather, makes it easy to get to and clean...Hope it all makes sense and helps you out.
