Uh oh,passenger heat BIG problem

For those of you that get too hot in the mid day sun and have a windshield (wind screen for you non-USA members...lol) - you can order a replacement that has 5 position adjustable vents in it for cooling here: http://www.clearviewshields.com/

Their windshields can be ordered 2 inches wider, light gray tinted, with cutouts if you have foglights, with a slight recurve at the top to deal with the wind and the rain, and up 27 inches tall (from the top of the headlight). Their windshields are a lot thicker and tougher than any stock windshield. I have one on both my bikes and have been using theirs for years.

In the past I have been hit with pieces of a recapped semi truck tire, rocks, bugs, small birds, etc...and had a bee get stuck inside of my helmet once. Plus my lower back since I got rear-ended while driving my pick up truck and sitting on the on ramp waiting to enter the freeway during rush hour traffic by a commercial truck towing a bulldozer whose driver was texting a few years back, I can't handle the constant strain from having to fight a 60-70 mile per hour wind in my face all day on long rides any more.

I agree...you take the time to learn to ride, you do all of the work necessary to keep the bike looking and running good, you fix your bikes up with nice comfy back seats you will never sit on to please them, you buy their gear, you pay for the gas and ride 'em around 2up which is a PITA IMO, and yet they still compain....

Been there done that...which is why years ago I told my other half to learn to ride her own..or stay home. They want equality...they wanna be liberated..I say give it to them. Now she keeps up and we get along just fine whenever we go anywhere. Best decision I ever made concerning my bike IMO.

Go to the index page of this forum and you will find the Tripp tune right at the top

Hey guys the excitement of picking up the Rocket yesterday has turned into despair rather quickly. The wife is saying that the heat she feels riding behind me is completely overwhelming and that the bike is useless to her.Granted we are high 90's here in NC with a serious heat wave going on . Couple fellas suggested bead riders but wondering if anyone else has run into this and if so what if anything can be done?
Dealer said at the first service Engine Ice can be added to reduce engine temp a good bit.
Interested in any possible solutions.
I have found the culprit, on my 05 for sure. It never felt like the inferno was coming from the engine or header pipes. It was in the a area of the side covers and the seat itself. In my case the heat is from the catalytic converter. A cat must reach a high temperature in order to convert hydrocarbons & nox. On a car that's 800 degrees, more in some cases. I'll bring my infrared thermometer from work tomorrow an check the cat temp on the R3. The cat uses oxygen to create heat and to convert HCs & NOX. The true purpose if the O2 sensors are to feed O2 to the cat so that it will properly reduce emissions & not be destroyed by over rich fuel mixtures. That means the people suggesting a different tune are correct a richer tune should lower the temp some (Maybe not enough though). My solution will be to remove the cat, wrap the exh. pipes and a tune.

Makes sense.I ordered the wrap already.I'll look into removing the CAT.

Install an aftermarket Air Conditioning system (the pump will sap you of some hp though) or fit a side car to the left side (away from the heat), when riding don't position it too far into on coming traffic!

Interesting idea.
Has anyone affixed a sidecar to a Rocket?

How interesting... you guys complain that your rockets are too hot during the day... but here in ice old canada i LOVE that my rocket is warm, for about 1 month of the year its unbearably hot but then the rest of the year its cold in the morning and the heat from the engine keeps me warm! Nothing like riding into work at 8am and feeling that nice radiating heat from the engine block when its 10c outside... ahhh...
