Installed TORS today

I have put TORs on my Rocket and really like the sound. So do my buddies. The previous pipes I had on my America were loud and I always heard complaints from the fellows following me. They would bark. The TORs on the Roadster are another matter. Everyone loves the sound from the bike. Not obnoxious and I'm not left hearing deprived at the end of a days ride.

I wish Triumph would provide a couple of options as to the length of the pipes. The TORs for the Thunderbird and America/Speedy come in several lengths and styles. The Rocket deserves some selection also. It would be nice if Arrow would make a Triumph endorsed performance exhaust for the Rocket from the headers back too for those days when noise isn't an issue. :)

I had,a,pair of British Customs exhaust on my 2 America's . Awesome throaty sound, what a stock America should sound like.

I actually am a bit of a tree-hugging environmentalist, but that problem will never be solved by private individuals acting on their own anyway. Well, frankly, won't get solved at all in time because of the massive inertia in society.

So may as well enjoy the ride now and be secure in the knowledge I have no kids, and I don't care about your kids or their kids. Screw them, I'm riding here. :p Gotta look around and see where to get some TORS, clearly.

Edit: ouch. 375£ on Worldoftriumph, which is about $560, plus shipping. Still better than D&D pricing.

Chexk out All Things Triumph, they ship worldwide. It is run by my dealer.

had mine from my triumph dealer, including fitting and tune cost me £250,i had them done with my 1st service cost me about £330 total as i remember.

Thanks, I'll give it a look, but anything coming from outside of the EU needs to be really really cheap to be worth it. Once it crossed the border, there are some customs fees and of course local VAT which is 24%. So at least 25-26% more on the price in the US.

$396 US (on sale, anyone else need TORS?)... which should mean about $500 by the time it's here. Add shipping for $50-100 for something that bulky and it's pretty much the exact same money. :)

G'day all. I have been away for a few weeks and just got back. I finally got to ride the bike for the first time yesterday because I had to get a Safety Certificate for registration. Even though I have had the bike for about 6 weeks now, I haven't been able to ride it. Anyhow, it is a stock (except it has a K&N under the seat) Classic 2006. I have cleaned the filter (it was filthy!) and added a new set of plugs and fresh fuel. It is now running a lot smoother (also did the 12 minute tune). Tomorrow I will be adding some TORS and the d-cat I picked up used.

I got the cable for TuneECU and downloaded the tune that was recommended for that setup in the "trading tunes" section. I will have the dealer upload their recommended TOR tune and see how it goes before comparing the other one.

I am like a few of the others here: not into loud bikes but I don't like the stock whistle, prefer a bit of a pure sound, which I think I will get. I will post my impressions after it is done (the weather here in Brisbane is looking a bit wild, wet and windy for the weekend so not sure how much riding I will get in).

I also have the dreaded 2000 rpm idle randomly, but persistently occurring. I have had to restart on the fly to get it to reset.. no fun in traffic. I have read a few of the posts regarding this problem and I will start with the new ecu tune the dealers will be installing with the pipes and go from there...
I have tried to apply the fix described here: http://www.r3owners.net/threads/new-high-idle-fix-and-maybe-more.6993/
but I couldn't get it free, didn't want to force it so I might get the dealer to check it.

I will try to document my experience resolving the issue and will reply in the "common issues" section.

Looking forward to the new sound and maybe sorting out the idle issue

For the local Brissie boys I took her around Mt Cootha about 20 times in different directions to get a feel for the bike and it was awesome (a bit tricky with the idle thing at times), we are lucky to have such a nice local testing road (I am looking forward to exploring many more in the area)

later guys and thanks to all who have contributed to the best forum on the web!

The stock tune for the classic with TORs/cat bypass is 20219, the same as 20226 for the not classic. It is restricted in the secondaries. so you lose 12-14 ft lbs for peak torque. Try 20050DynoFinalMap_TOR_CatBypass_Decel.hex with the O2 sensor disabled. It's a Tuneboy custom tune for this setup with unrestricted secondaries and timing advanced in the lower gears.

I have that tune (20050DynoFinalMap_TOR_CatBypass_Decel.hex ) but I haven't ventured into TuneECU just yet, aside from firing it up on the laptop in the garage to take a peek. I ordered the USB cable and it arrived the other day. I figured I would see how things go after the TORS + the shop map (the one Triump techs use for that config, 20219? I didn't ask what they used but I might hook it (Tune ECU) up as I believe I can read what the current map is in the program).

So I went and picked up the bike in a very bad storm we had here yesterday (as all the Brissie blokes will know about, I hope you are all ok and no damage done), just got it home before a major deluge, so couldn't go far. I opened a beer(s) and gave her a good clean while the storm raged. Anyhoo, It sounded pretty good to me (tors, no-cat) but that was only after a mile or so (2-3 kms) to home.

Today the weather was perfect and did about a 250 km (160 mile) trip mixed highway (110 kmh, 65 mph) and into the mountains (big hills) for some curves and varied throttle... no sign of the 2000 rpm lock but on decel!! bang.. bang.. ****.nasty.

I stopped at the Triumph dealer on the way home and the service writer took it for a ride and when he came back the 2000 rpm idle issue started up again! (it hadn't occurred at all in the morning ride, I thought the new tune might have cleared it up), so now I face these 2 issues.

The guys hooked it up to check the codes etc and according to the mechanics the codes were fine and all settings/sensors were ok (they said), but.. they used the old exhaust gaskets and I suspect there is some air getting in, so they have ordered the parts and I will have them installed next Friday. I have also requested they clean the CPS (I couldn't get it loose myself and I didn't want to force it)

I will hold off on installing the 20050DynoFinalMap_TOR_CatBypass_Decel.hex tune for now, as I want to see how the Triumph techs deal with it, also I want to ensure the little things are done first (gaskets,CPS clean).

Aside from that I am quite pleased with the sound of the TORS, not too loud, but definitely more growl on the throttle. Idle sound is not that impressive though (a Harley it will never be, obviously).

So far I have:

Cleaned and oiled the K&N filter
New plugs
New oil
De-Cat
TORS pipes.

The bikes seems to run well and is pretty smooth, except the decel back firing and the 2000 rpm idle issue.

I will keep reading the posts on these issues but any advice will be greatly appreciated!(sorry I didn't mean to hijack this thread with my issues, but if anyone else is doing TORS they might find all this stuff readable)

Sorry @dougl I meant to say thanks for your suggestion btw!
When you say "the O2 sensor disabled, and unrestricted secondaries" Is this a physical action I have to do or is it done virtually by the software ( in the tune parameters etc)?

Thanks again!

@Lostride you have your choice with the secondaries (and kind of the sensor). However, even if you remove them physically you should still adjust the tune as well. Easiest way is to leave everything physically, just remove the secondary restrictions and O2 sensor in the tune.

Thanks @cardinal93, can you describe what the general difference is as far as ride-ability is concerned, as per these changes? e.g. Is the bike more difficult to handle in tight slow turns because the slow speed restrictions have been modified? or is this not relevant to the situation ( i am a noob to tuning!)
Thanks!
