Treating years of yuck in the tank

Hi Kojack ~ thank you for sharing the product info & link for KBS. I haven't heard of this sealer before. I have used Caswell (very good) and Kreem (not so good). I will look more into KBS... if it makes more sense to use it instead of Caswell I will try it. As you know, our R3 tanks are large...

Treating years of yuck in the tank

Hey warp9.9 ~ Thank you for explaining the procedure; it certainly makes sense. You may have added a few more miles to my engine as a result (:

Treating years of yuck in the tank

Tripps ~ Oh nice! Sorry to hear it. Honestly, if I get at least 5 yrs of use after treatment I'd be okay with it. At my age I don't know how long I'll still be strong enough to hold a 700+ lb two-wheeler up! Time for a sidecar or a trike conversion maybe by then?

Treating years of yuck in the tank

warp9.9 ~ Thanks, warp9.9! Good info re the walbro 342 fuel pump et al. How do I fill the main bearing ladder gallery w/oil? It sounds like a great idea; I'm not sure how to do it. BTW, the tank color is that '05 black (:

Treating years of yuck in the tank

cootertwo ~ The rust is really bad in my R3 tank. I plan to document the process of treating it, including photos. I think I will use a combination of treatments including your suggestion of adding hardware in the initial solution to loosen-up the flaky rust, try using electrolysis followed by...

Treating years of yuck in the tank

Ishrub & Tripp ~ absolutely right on! Chemicals containing HCl need to be handled with caution and LOTS of ventilation. I appreciate the warning esp. since I already have a breathing disorder. This isn't going to be an easy overnight fix but it shouldn't have to kill me to get it right LOL...

Treating years of yuck in the tank

First I want to extend my thanks for each of you who have responded. While I have used Kreem & Caswell tank products in the past, they were on much smaller and less complicated tanks than our R3's come fitted with. In order of response I'd like to address your individual suggestions: Hoopla...

Treating years of yuck in the tank

Greetings, R3 Family, I need advice from anyone who has dealt with treating extensive flaky deposits within an R3's gas tank. I have my tank off now and drained about a gallon of very foul fuel, along with a fistful of rusty bits. My '05 R3 had been basically abandoned after her first year and...

    Old Biker New Rocket

Thanks, Aquilla & Gregger. Maybe the gal behind the counter who helped me didn't know she could look the VIN up and get me a code. I gave her the VIN and she found blanks which would work but didn't offer anything like a code. Hmm. Well, it's okay now as I did get a locksmith to cut me new keys...

    Old Biker New Rocket

Hi Mickie, thanks for the suggestion. I'm glad I found another solution and way out as far as the missing key is concerned (see post to Plow Horse). I do think looking on eBay and our own classifieds may be the answer for other parts I will need for this project bike.
