PC3 woes

Tried the -4 and -5 tune from the pc3 website and both seem to work great till the bike warms up. This was after installing Jars and uni filters.
Once the engine is up to temp I get bucking and flatspots between 1k and 2k rpm. I can tell the cylinders are loading up from the a/f mixture being way to rich. Called tech support and was told that there is n o way that it could be running too rich. I put my face at the pipes and the fumes burn my eyes immediately. leaned out the map between 0 and 2k and now it will idle when I let go og the throttle but still getting some rough spots. I'm wondering if the new factory map is much richer and pc3 maps are still geared to the original factory map. My dealer told me that they did install the new map on my last scheduled service.

Find out which tune they loaded, if they loaded the aftermarket exhaust tune, cat, no cat, etc.

Interesting comment regarding the bike running too rich. My buddy has a PCIII on his Road King. I've been telling him for months his bike is running too rich. We went on a road trip to Georgia and he only got around 30 mpg. And, then a short time after he noticed the engine would surge at certain spots. He ended up taking the PCIII off and the bike came back to life. It runs better and his mileage went up. I have no idea if the PCIII was faulty or if he simply doesn't know what he's doing, but I have heard a few folks having issues with the PCIII. Go figure.

I had a Vance and Hines Fuel Pak on my Harley. It worked great, but I also heard of folks having issues with it. Again, go figure.

That's the problem with using canned tunes. You really need to get a dyno tune to get everything calibrated to your specific bike and set up.

That's one of the reasons I went with the V&H. I had V&H pipes. V&H had the proper settings for my bike with their pipes on their website. My bike was stock, however, other than the pipes. I doubt you'll run into issues going that route if your bike is stock. But yeah, if you're going to be modding the engine much, you'll likely need to dyno the bike to get it right. Otherwise, you might end up doing more harm than good.

Angry

Just called dealer. They can't tell from their records which tune was installed at the 10k service. I'm wondering if the secondaries are what's screwing things up. I remember reading that Triumph closes the secondary butterflies on decel to help alleviate the popping. If thats the case, they're coming out in a heartbeat.

Thumbs up Test drive

Hey pig9er, just got back from a test drive with the dyno tune. Actualyl the second test drive. The first round I found the same issue as with every other tune I've tried. WAY too rich from 500 to 2000 rpm. Brought the bike back and used the low range button on the pc3 to bring the LED all the way to the bottom. Took it back out and still had had some bucking but near as bad as other tunes withe the LED bottomed out. I'm gonna print out the map and compare it with the modified map in the pc3.

Getting closer................thanks.................jim

Almost there

Dropped the midrange one notch with results. Parked it and dropped it another notch and it's enjoyable to ride again. Th map that the dealer flashed in must've been super rich or else it's those damned secondaries. When my K&N's arrive, the secondaries are history.........................
