What I've learned about ignition timing for an IC SC R3 so far:

A blown R3 loves ignition advance. Without enough initial timing advance, a blown motor will run hot and the exhaust pipes will glow in the dark. Blown motors should run as little as 16 degrees to as much as 26 degrees initial advance, with the total advance of about 32-36 degrees at 2500 RPM to 3000 RPM. We've got 36 degrees of advance already in at the higher RPMs and my motor is lovin' it... nice percentage torque increase. I'm not sure this would be possible with a SC R3 that is non-intercooled, has stock cams, and/or stock exhaust. Even the un-equal length Jardine headers were shit. Dylan thinks she can take more advance, but I'm starting to wonder just when we'll get the first indication of detonation. I'm beginning to think the free flowing, stepped headers have a whole lot to do with the ability to take the ignition advance.
