Welcome...I agree with Head...you may want to look at the touring version. Essentially the same bike but with a little more leg room

Just did 500 mile trek and didn't feel cramped at all, but I'm sure that touring would be more comfortable. I just don't care for the touring version, looks too much like a Hardley in my opinion.
 
I am with you on the looks of the R3T, the R3R with different front end handling/suspension does make a difference. But having owned both the R3T is better for multiple 1000+mile days...

Ideally I wouldn't do the touring version, because as Jabol said; it looks and feels too much like something other than a Triumph (HD). I love the aggressive body style and engine design of the Roadster. If leg room becomes an issue, I'd imagine I could always add in highway bars with pegs no? It shouldn't mess with the overall style/silhouette of the sides because of the radiator being mounted sideways I feel. Images on google of the roadster with highway bars looks like it is practically flush with the radiator sides.

I'm actually not a fan of fairings personally. Or really windscreens of any kind. First thing I did with my intruder was rip that ugly thing off my bike lol. Wind in FL. doesn't tend to be so bad, and I keep my distance from other vehicles on the road, so I don't have to worry so much about debris. I mostly commute from work/school/home and back. Occasional trips to the movies or something like that. Full-time school + work doesn't leave much free time other than to ride and enjoy the bike :)

6'3" 330lbs. I fit the roadster quite fine. I can go about two hours before I need a 20 min break on it. Never felt cramped, though the foot brake took a bit to get used to. I do feel like the handlebars could be a bit further back, but that should be easily remedied with some risers or new bars.
 
I originally thought of going for the touring. I liked the idea of the luggage but on inspection I thought the panniers were pointless as they were quite small. I also wanted ABS as my previous two bikes had it and considered it a life saver but the r3t I was looking at hadn't got it. Then I saw "The Beast"! 2011 Haze Blue, the rest is history.

I believe the pegs are in a more 'European' position on the roadster which is what I prefer. Never been a fan of the 'legs out' position, my hips locked out when I tested a Harley, might work if a backrest is fitted.

Welcome aboard. You'll fit on a Roadster no problem. Of course the pre-Roadster (ie 2009 and earlier) models had better peg position but get highway pegs and you do have more options for foot placement. Totally with you on the screen thing. Some people have fitted bat wing fairings but they completely spoil the look of the bike. Screens will annoy the crap out of you with the wind noise and buffetting and the headlights, gauges and tank on a Rocket do deflect quite a bit of the direct wind anyway. I know plenty disagree with me but I prefer to ride as nature intended (and not make my bike look stupid).

And yes, highly recommend a rider's backrest.
 
Hello Hiero and welcome from Virginia. I lived in Florida for 12 years while in the Navy and none of my bikes back then had a windscreen. i didn't do much long distance stuff either, mainly commuting. I have the '14 R3T and put 20K miles on it the first year and really couldn't be happier. But I think from what you've said, the R3R is the bike for you in all regards. No windscreen, great looks, undeniably a Triumph (and not an HD clone), plenty big enough for your frame and can be modified easily with the highway pegs on the engine which I do say is very important. I'm new to this whole "bikers on the web" thing. I have been riding for about 15 years, just got myself an '03 Suzuki Intruder 800, but I'm eyeballing a Rocket 3 Roadster for my next big buy.

I did have a question though:

I'm a much larger guy than most. I'm 6'3" and weigh about 290. There are no local dealers that carry Triumph (I'm in Tampa FL., closest dealer I've seen online is in Miami or in the pan-handle.) and I cant actually go sit on one to find out the normal way. Any larger riders here fit right on the Rocket 3 Roadster? I ride every day, so ideally I'm looking for a bike that I can show some love to that will show me love back lol.

74 inches 190lb r3r fits like it was a custom designed for me. I would change nothing about foot placement.

Sat on a Bonneville and speed triple r yesterday...
They felt like childrens toys in comparison. Once you adapt to the rocket everything else just seems small.

Like you I can't or won't go real long distance (living on an island and all that), but if you need the highway pegs rivco makes a mount that works with the engine bars so you don't have to installed the dresser bars on the front. They don't reduce ground clearance at all either.

While I agree that I don't like screens on bikes , much over 120 on a rocket is very hard to sustain for long because of the wind. You can lay forward onto the tank and hide behind the gauges if needed but I imagine it looks a bit silly ;p

G'day mate and welcome from one of the Aussies. Get the Roadster and if you feel you are cramped you can keep your eye out for a set of "standard" foot rails to move you're feet forward. I have two sets of standard rails and pegs.... Just in case.
