I stopped by a local muffler shop today, and the guy says he can build a custom header to can system using larger diameter pipe"1 3/4 or 2". All this and keep stock heat shields and look. Will this give results similar to CES or at least be better than what is on there now. He can also open up the exhaust cans to be similar to tors.
BTW... price was very reaaonable

The shape of the stock header and the small size pipe Triumph used really holds it back. I would suspect an increased pipe size would provide an improvement but certainly not as good as the CES pipes.

Only one way to really know for sure. Is to do it. To my knowledge I don't know if it has been done, but it might be worth a try..

I will probably try this option because of price and I like having heat shields. Any hotter in summer riding would make it not enjoyable.

What does a set of CES headers cost roughly? The stock header is an abomination. You could put the same thing together with hardware store black pipe, so any header that matches the back pressure to each cylinder (length dependent) and increases the flow rate through the exhaust (cross section dependent) would be a huge improvement. Granted, it's extremely difficult to just fabricate a well balanced exhaust by eye, which is why CES is so effective. Someone over there did their homework. Keep us all posted on what you decide to do... I'd love to swap my stock header out, too.

I'm starting to look at exhaust systems, but I can't find CES's website? Can someone post a link? Thank you.

The CES to US will likely run you just under 2K with expedited air shipping.
This is what I did and I am EXTREMELY satisfied with their performance!
You will need a qualified tuner with Tune ECU knowledge to get the best results.
Email them - Trev and Leslie are terrific and very helpful.
