| | | Aye, Aye Captain Flip! The grease & plastic will abound tomorrow upon returning home from work. Thanks for the tip. I most likely would have left it as is, which puts the mirror connection ports "up" (as you stated) to collect moisture from whatever comes along.

| | | Back to square #1? Here we go, this issue is "NOT" resolved. When I removed the Signal Minder & replaced the stock flasher, then went back to the Signal Minder and all seemed well, I was in "key on" only mode (engine was not running).
I haven't been on the bike since the initial test ride with the Signal Minder installed but this morning I rode her to work & she (the turn signal light) flashed at me all the way to work. With only the key on (test done when arriving at work), the dash light for the signal works fine. When I start her up is when the light issue starts.
What is it that causes the light to stay on solid & flash intermittantly (from time to time) while the engine is running, but works as intended when in "key on only" mode?
I'm back to asking for assistance guys (and gals). Pianoman stated he would inquire from his mechanic so I'm hoping for a resolve from him, unless he read my "All is Well" post & didn't ask the question.
We'll see. See ya. |

| | | A bit more to the puzzle. OK, here is another bit of info that may be pertinent to figuring this out. If I set dip switch #1 to "off" (disables the running lights), the dash light does not stay on while the engine is running. I turned the dip switch on and off a few times to prove that the dash light is indeed related to the setting of the switch/running lights.
Surely there is a reason why the dash light comes on while in "running lights mode" (remember, only while the engine is running, all works fine if key on and engine not running). Also, while driving along, the dash signal light flickers from time to time but does not flicker during the turn cycle but stays on solid til the cycle cancels, then flickers again.
Someone? Anyone? Pigger, do you recall what you "think" you heard about this issue? |

| | | Perhaps I'm missing something, but why are you installing a signal minder on a bike that already has self-canceling turn signals?

| | | Oh-con-trair (or how ever you say it) RD. The 2005 Rocket does not have cancelling signals. Maybe the newer models do, I'm not sure. My Rocket is 3 years the senior to yours.
As stated earlier, I often forget to turn the signal off and it's going to get me in trouble some day. A guy pulled out in front of me shortly after I got the Red gal & I gave him the "I'm angry" fist. He yelled out, "Your turn signal is on". I understood then that I needed to correct the issue.

| | | Well, I figured you must have some logical reason for doing it.

| | | redneck signal minder Rusty, I have the same problem letting my turn signal on foever. Here is what I've been planning but haven't gotten around to yet. Since I disconnected the stock road runner (meep-meep) horn and installed twin Fiamm's, I'm gonna run a wire form each of the front turn signal circuits (with diodes inline) to the meep-meep horn. Might have to muffle the horn a bit but it shouldn't take much since it's pitifully weak to begin with........................jim

| | | Final post! I broke down & did what any bewildered man would do & got the instruction sheet out that came with the device. On the last 2 pages is a "FAQ" section and one of the questions is:
I've installed the Signal Minder & my dash indicator light stays on all the time. Is this normal?
Answer is (not quoted from the book but this wording is pretty close):
Yes, if you have dip switch #1 set to running lights mode (on). Since the flash indicator light on the dash is connected into the flash circuit (flashes with the turn lights), the running light mode puts partial power to the turn signals, thus, also puts power to the dash panel light. The dash light should be "on" but dim and will brighten during the flash cycle.

Well, I'm not certain why my light stays on 95% of the time but I guess I'll have to live with it if I want the "running lights" mode offered by the Signal Minder. I'm thinking of putting a small round sticker directly over the dash signal light (on the tach face) to remove the night time glare is puts out. At least keep it from glaring directly at me.
Next question is, how long will the LED live if it is on pretty much all the time?
Also, I noticed this morning the light goes out during braking. Not sure why that started happening.
OH well, I'll learn to live with it or turn the running lights mode off. At least the signal will cancel after the selected number of flashes, which could save me a lot of grief.

| | | Isn't a LED good for 20,000 hours of continuous output......It's gonna live longer than the bike will.
What would happen if you put a diode in line with the indicator light?
