What makes his bike even shinier is the fact I almost never wash mine. Parked side by side gives a solid reference point.

I mounted an Avon to the front of mine sat. and really like the way it handles. I too wonder how long it will last because that thing is soft. you can really stick your thumbnail into the rubber.

Your bike looks great, Brit. The darkside just gets better the more you get used to it.

I've been pushing harder and harder on the Avons, and I'll say this. If I was going to do a track day on the Rocket, I would mount Avons.. Life expectancy is still in question, but I'm knocking out 70 miles a day.

I like it, TD. Tire looks similar to my Yokohama. I just moved my plate up a couple of inches. You are really showing some skin!!

I bought my tire at A Goodyear tire store and they didn't have any issues mounting it. They had a bear a a time physically putting it on, but no liability type issues like my Triumph dealer claimed.
I did talk to my dealer after it was mounted and expressed my concerns about mounting with spoons and snake oil as opposed to his specailty mounting equipment. i am not sure if he got the point or not but I will check with him when I replace mine. (That should be about 2011)

Went to the Darkside, now coming back to where I began

Folks here it is, I tried the Darkside. Have now about 60 miles on the car tire. First the air pres recommended for the "car" tire was 49 psi max inflate. I started out at 35 psi, "too much transition between straight lines and curves" I kept lowering till the transition faded, now I am 28 psi. But now the tire is too loose on the curves. I think if I did not hit curves so hot, it would be fine and I love how it feels on the straight aways, but I do not puss the bike around, it is meant to be driven. I am not going to push it with the darkside. I will keep the car tire for future drag track days to take on the local high school punks lol, show them what this older guy can do with it.

So here is a question; like many of you, I too feel jacked with how long the metz lasts. I am getting around 6k on one. I am looking at Avon 240. Anyone care to weigh in on the new Avon or any other 240 / 50/ 16 tire?

Thanks much

I have several posts about my Avons on the forum. They have about 12,000 miles on them now and still have some good life left. I will be riding up to Hot Springs, AR next month for the Hot Springs rally and will still be using my Avons. Below are links to pictures of my Avons from a couple of months ago when I passed over 10,000 miles..
I posted links because the pictures are very large...

I switched from the Metz to an Avon about 1000 miles ago and the handling is remarkably better. Feels much more secure at maximum lean.
