You are talking about two diffrent forces on the side wall between a car and a bike.
A car applies more horizontal force which the side wall is desigen for, not much down force (unless racing) then you deal with more down force. A bike cornering is appling both down and side force on the car tire at same time.
Like I say it's just my oppinion and I'm sticking to it
Bike tires are desined for bikes and car tires are desigen for cars

How much down force is my 2800 pound car applying to the sidewall of each tire? with a nearly 50/50 weight distribution just sitting there is 700 pounds/tire.

The R3 is what? 780 wet?

What's the weight distribution on the R3? If it's 50/50, that's 390 per tire on the curb.

I understand what you're saying but I'd like to see the math on it.

A lot of high performance car tires do have some tread on the sidewalls. No, they aren't rounded like a bike tire but I'm pretty sure the sidewalls can take the down force.

As far as wet grip, this past sunday I rode over 200 miles in the rain, a lot of it in the mountains, and my darkside did not slip at all. I was taking it pretty easy, of course, but no easier that I would have with the metz on the rear.
I don't think there is much difference in the contact patch of the 2 types of tires when you are cranked over.

I'm no mathematician so you wont see any numbers from me but I do know you have to divide the car load by 4 (4 tires) not 50/50 so by your numbers that would give a 2800lb car only 700lbs a tire.
But like i've said it's just my humble oppion
.

and in the end it boils down to opinion, when i ran one it never slipped but i just was not confident enough to throw the pegs down in the corners. thats the one thing i love about my rocket is how it dominates corners over most cruisers, i push the bike in speed and cornering and i just want something that i know and feel will get me through. if it works for you guys I'm jealous cus its much cheaper. but I'm just too scared to pull it off i guess.

I've slipped the rear plenty of times on the Metz. I'm not darkside, but I am on the fence.

The things stopping me are:

-The math for the sidewall stress (comparison)

-Contact patch for each (comparison) in a blob lean at various speeds.

-Tire compound (comparison)

If the math is equal or better, the contact patch is equal or better and the compound is equal or better, then I'd switch.

But, in order to achieve all that with a high performance car tire (a $40 Toyo aint gonna cut it for me), would I save money?

Well.. I orginally posted this just to throw some shops out there for anyone who might be looking. As y'all know, I ordered my Cobras from tireexpress.com yesterday morning. You know what?! They arrived at my house today! Sitting at my garage door when I got home from work!

I will say, the Cobras are very pretty tires, almost too nice looking to put to pavement, with a cute little coiled up cobra on the very edges, but alas.. they must go on..

Well then on that note, I've always had good luck, pricing and fast shipment from TireRack.com

But that's for car tires.

Let us know what you think of them and how many miles you wind up getting on those "pretty tires"
