I'm about to lift the gas tank on my '07 Classic Tourer to route some wiring for auxiliary lighting.

Can I just follow instructions in service manual, or are there any tricks I should know that would help?

If you have the service manual it may says that you need to remove the tach and speedo, you don't have to do that on '06 and newer models.

There is no replacement for displacement.

The front fastening tang on the tank will come mighty close to the tacn and spedo. Just guide it up between the two. Lift from the right side so as to have ready access to the prop wand. A near full tank will overflow.

Hey Nemaste, I was beginning to think they (Triumph) let the Prop Wand off my tank the first time I went to use it. It was not obvious to see it. I finally caught sight of it's "chameleon" appearance & all was well.

I have a 2005. I have to undo a bolt to rotate the speedo and tach forward to lift the tank.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't looking forward to removing tach and spedo, so nice to hear I don't have to. I have ridden the tank almost dry, so hopefully overflow won't be a problem.

About the only time I've had a problem with fuel escaping is with an almost full tank. And they (Triumph) routed the overflow hose out the bottom pretty lengthy so it doesn't get on anything but the ground. Anything about 3/4 tank or less you should be ok.

And about the speedo & tach (for those of us who have that model which requires them to be out of the way), after the capscrew is removed, they simply "pivot" forward on a retaining roll pin, they don't come completely off, unless that is your intent. Simply "fold" forward with all the wiring in tact. Pretty simple.

06 and later has a chrome washer under the hex fastner. Remove the bolt and the washer slips neatly into the mounting bracket, It can be a b*&^% to retreive it, My advise keep a finger on the little sucker. (experience talking)
