Geo: Happy Birthday. I'm sure you are like me and no candles. You/I don't want to have a fire call for open burning.......

I went and bought myself a wicked digital today. I was waiting for Nick (one of the techs at school) to get back from his Alaska trip (this guy is a serious tourer...15,875 miles in 6 weeks) and give me a first hand report on his digital camera. He went with me to the camera shop and I forked over 350 bucks and bought a Fuji Fine Pix S1000fd with a 2 gig SD card and a case. Has 12x optical zoom + 4x digital zoom and it shoots movies with sound. Now I can do in room movies of Captains doing and saying things that I/we can embarass them later with.

I'm going to see if he will let me download some of his pictures. If he will, I'll post them on site. Alaska is beautiful. He burned through 1400 bucks worth of gas, went through 3 back tires and 2 fronts, 2 sets of brake pads and who knows how many beers. No, he don't have a Rocket. I don't think a Rocket would do very well on the Trans-Alaska Highway. Lots of it isn't paved. He said he saw 2 potato bikes that didn't make it all the way north...turned around and went back south. He said they were going about 10 mph. He has a Beemer 1200 GS. You can't do Alaska on anything but an adventure tourer. Street bikes don't cut it.
Interestingly, he shot 3 sets of movies (with sound), and over 1000 still pictures on one set of Lithium batteries, the originals and they are still in the camera.
