| I have the tall one(only put it on for long trips) and it is plenty tall enough for my soft bag on the rear and a small suitcase strapped to it from the front. | | |

As far as the stock backrests,
I've only got the short one to look at.
But it's wider at the bolt holes,
then comes in more to make its upward transition,
to the pad area.
You could always do what I did,
make your own, or have one made.

| Hellfire, on my trip to Key West I started off with just the pack portion (manufacturer: T-Bag of all things), after I started to collect T-shirts I needed more room and was able to pick up the round roll bag in Ft. Myers (matching the pack/suitcase with wheels by the way and an extendable handle....not just your ordinary motorcycle pack/bag). On my trip back up (the 855 miles in one day jaunt) I didn't notice any adverse effects of the high sitting arrangement...the Rocket just kept cruising on and on.
